Relationship Between Energy Adequacy and Eating Patterns with the Teacher’s Productivity of MTS Negeri Samarinda
Abstract
Teachers have significant role in developing human resources in the field of education. Increasing teacher’s productivity needs to be supported by optimal nutritional status. Preliminary study result showed that 60% of MTs Negeri Samarinda's teachers had a BMI more than 25 kg/m2(overweight and obese). Workplace productivity influenced by several factors including nutritional intake, eating pattern, and nutritional status. Optimal nutrient intake and well-balanced diet needed by a worker to produce high work productivity. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between energy adequacy and eating pattern to teacher's productivity at MTs Negeri Samarinda. This cross-sectional study involving 58 teachers, selected by total sampling. Data collected by 2 x 24 hours food recall, and Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire, and productivity questionnaire. Spearman Rank test analysis to determine the relationship between variables to productivity. The results showed there was significant relationship between energy adequacy (p = 0.004), energy intake (p = 0.028), and protein intake (p = 0.005) to workplace productivity of teachers at MTs Negeri Samarinda. But, there were no relationship between fat intake (p = 0.075) and carbohydrate intake (p = 0.085) to teacher's productivity. Nutritional intervention should be given to teachers to achive ideal nutritional status while maintain good workplace productivity and taking consideration of teacher’s work characteristics.
